mama’s boy

Mateo is a mama's boy. But that's according to me. Ask Ramil and he might say that Mateo is a papa's boy. I'd like to think that Mateo is both, actually. Considering that we are the only two people that Mateo sees at least five days a week, it's understandable.
I don't really plan on bringing him up to be a mama's boy. I admire men who have so much love and respect for their mothers but being a mama's boy in the truest sense of the word is, in my opinion, wimpy. I plan on bringing up Mateo having a soft spot for me (I hope!) but having his own mind as well. I've read quite a number of novels and watched more than a few movies where the major dilemma in the story is the mama's boy predicament. One only has to watch JB in Maging Sino Ka Man to feel intense dislike for the mother and an almost disgust for the son. I've noticed that only sons and first-born sons are the ones that tend to be mama's boys. I guess Mateo being both right now puts him at a disadvantage. Hehe!
One of the things that made me go head over heels with Ramil is his treatment of women. Fortunately, this didn't come from him being a mama's boy (because he's not) but from how his father treated his mother. Together, I'm pretty sure Mateo would turn out to be neither a papa's boy nor a mama's boy. Although some people say that a child grows up to be one or the other, we plan on Mateo being an exception.
