save the animals

Posted on July 22, 2007

Ramil and I have always shared our love for animals. Although I sometimes go eewww with some of them, I recognize every animals' importance in the whole scheme of life. HEdCen, the school where we teach, has the same stand when it comes to animals. The school itself can pass for a mini-zoo with the diversity of animals that they keep. One of the things that we teach the children is kindness to animals, whether they like the animal or not. Pretty much the same way you treat people ;)

The school is also fortunate to have parents who are supportive of the school's endeavors in saving the environment. We have parents who are philanthropists and are sincere in helping out not just the school, but the environment as well. Last year, the school held a marathon to raise funds for the preservation of the nearby river. That activity signals the start of the school's official foray into environmental causes and the school's Earth Fund is now alive. It gives me peace of mind knowing that there are kids rowing up with the awareness for environmental issues. Back in high school, I myself joined an environmental club.

The Earth Fund, from what I understand, is very similar to the popular World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Their very familiar panda logo has been a symbol of the organization's international efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats. Let's just say that it is the school's version of WWF. This international organization has three goals: saving endangered species, protecting endangered habitats, and addressing global threats such as toxic pollution, over-fishing and climate change. These are issues that every child should be made aware of, issues that hound the planet they will be inheriting.
