keeping your system password protected
Posted on November 11, 2007
In my previous corporate job, I've experienced the hassle of needing to change your password every month. It was crazy trying to think of new passwords since we weren't allowed to repeat any. There were more than one occassion when I've had to call the IT department for a reset because I've forgotten my passwords. It was hard to remember them because I needed to keep changing them every month. I recognize the need for the system and all data to be secure. My experience before is very different from how the school's system is being maintained. I believe that the passwords have never been changed since I started working there. With delicate data like grades, I think we need a password keeper.
The leading provider of UNIX and Linux security administration solutions, Symark Software, has recently announced that its PowerBroker and PowerPassword-User Management Edition access control solutions will fully support the new HP integrity servers running the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system. These two will limit access to information and systems bases on pre-defined policies and privileges. While the PowerBroker protects the root account from both internal and external threat, the PowerPassword-UME enables IT managers to centrally deploy, modify, and delete individual UNIX and Linux user accounts.
Although this software might be too advanced for a small school like ours, we definitely need something like this. We store and manipulate a lot of delicate information and it would be comforting to know that no unauthorized access to these would be given to other people.

wow bagong bihis ang blog. Hay same sentiments here regarding passwords. Di pwedeng umulit. Nauubusan na ako ng maisip na new password.
Hi mai! Glad to see you back and blogging once again!
Natuto ako sa passwords na yan, ginawa ko na dati na date-based. Something like andrea112007 for this month, so next month andrea122007. So at least di nauulit and naaalala ko at the same time. Haha!
