a change of career

An old friend of mine is thinking of changing career. She’s been teaching for almost three years now and recently, she told me that she wanted to try a corporate job for a while. Having worked in the corporate world for three years, she was asking me about a lot of things. She wanted to try her luck at several big companies. She’s also visiting some financial jobs blog in the hopes of finding one there or simply just reading through posts to help her get a feel for the corporate life. She’s not closing her doors on teaching though. She thinks she might actually go back if things don’t work out. I just hope she finds the right career for her.

let me out!

Since Mateo loves going outside now, he has also learned how to use our house keys. While we were outside our house a week ago, he got the keys from me and proceeded to use it on our padlock. I was amazed he knew how to use it because nobody taught him how. I guess he just learned by observing us use it. He’s not coordinated enough to be able to turn the key in the right direction and unlock the padlock though but he succeeded in putting the key inside. Of course, I took pictures.

Mama, let me out please…

Oh, I’ll just use the keys to open the gate myself…

Now, which key is it again?

I guess we have to be careful, he might let himself out next time, LOL.

questions of the week

I’ve been seeing this on Litzie’s blog. Just thought of answering it too.

1. Can you write with both hands? No.

2. Are you superstitious? No, I’m actually a big skeptic when it comes to superstitions.

3. What would be your dream job? A Lonely Planet travel writer because I’d get to travel a lot but to be honest, my job right now only needs one thing for it to be a dream job – a higher pay, LOL. Unfortunately, teachers don’t get paid a lot in this country. But what Ramil and I actually wants is a small cafe that plays live music every now and then.

4. Do you dream often? Yes.

5. What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Cheese, Chocolate, Coffee, Caramel, Mocha – any flavor similar to these. But actually, I love ice cream so I’d eat any flavor :)

6. Did you ever sneak out when you were younger? Yes, I was called a delinkwente by some of my high school classmates. Um, I hope Mateo doesn’t get to read this, hehe!

7. Have you ever fallen in public? I can’t remember but with how clumsy I am, I think so. I’m just not bothered by it/them that’s why I can’t remember it/them.

8. What is your favorite animal? DOGS! Ramil and I are both true-blue dog-lovers ;)

9. As a child what was scarier…the closet or under the bed? Both, they both make me feel closed in.

10. Have you ever got your tongue stuck on a Popsicle? Hmmm, I can’t remember but maybe.

moving needs

After moving to a house closer to our workplace, I realized that moving can be so difficult. I even had a bit of trouble looking for a moving truck we could hire. I tried several moving companies because of course, we wanted a reliable one. In a month or so, my sister would be moving in with us. She’ll be staying with us during weekdays and she’ll be going home to our parents’ house every weekend. She’s been asking me about her moving needs and she’s been stressing over how to bring over her things. I’ve given her a few numbers she can call and I also told her that some sites like movingcompanies.tv can help her look for a good one. I hope her big move goes smoothly.

no to shades and hats

Mateo looks absolutely adorable whenever he’s wearing his pair of shades and his hat. I have a problem though, he’d often wear it for about five seconds – long enough for people around him to appreciate and say ‘wow, gwapo’ and then he’d go about removing the shades and then the hat. Does anyone have any tips on how to make a one-year-old wear at least a hat for hours?

my life – rated

I’ve been seeing this post in a lot of blogs that I frequent – Aggie’s, Litzie’s, and Mai’s. I got intrigued so I decided to try it even though I didn’t get tagged. Haha! So how’s my life right now? According to this quiz, here’s how I rated:

This Is My Life, Rated
Life: 8.8
Mind: 8.7
Body: 8.4
Spirit: 8.8
Friends/Family: 8.2
Love: 9.1
Finance: 7.2
Take the Rate My Life Quiz

According to the results, my life score is very high, much higher than the average. Quite frankly, I was surprised to see the results. I don’t know if it was just because of my good mood when I answered it or maybe I am really more optimistic than most people. Because I myself wouldn’t rate my life’s finance aspect as a 7.2, LOL. But then again, I am always optimistic. So anyway, if it’s just a measure of how happy I am right now, I guess generally speaking, I AM very happy with my life now. An 8.8? why not? :)

search for plastic

My mom is currently looking for a good credit card. She’s one of those people who still recognize the benefits of having one. The key is how to manage your spending. Knowing about our experience with credit cards and the number of cards we have, my mama asked me the other day which card would be good for her. I enumerated several for her, thinking of cards that have easy credit card approval or one of those Cash Reward Credit Cards. With several cards that I enumerated, she couldn’t seem to decide which card to apply for. I’ve been searching online too using CreditCardSearchEngine.com and the number of different types of cards can really be overwhelming. I guess I just have to help my mom think through which card would suit her best.

our little gardener

Mateo loves playing outside. I’d usually accompany him and even if he’s just walking around in our garage and front area, he’s happy already. He’d tinker with everything he can get his hands on while I just let him explore to his heart’s content. A few days ago, he was so taken by the small pots with euphorbia plants. Since the smallest pot is light enough for him to carry, he tried picking it up. A firm NO made him stop what he’s trying to do but moved on to touching the soil inside :) I wonder if our little boy has a green thumb? Well, if he indeed has one he didn’t get it from his Dada or me! :D

mall time

Ever since the new mall near our area was opened, our small family have gone for some quick mall time every now and then. For the just concluded three-day weekend, we were there last Saturday and Monday. Ramil and I used pass by the mall when we were still bf-gf. We’d meet every day from our respective workplaces and have dinner together. That was our routine for more than five years. Hence, when we moved to the mountains of Antipolo, our mall time got considerably few. So now we’re trying to make up for lost time. Hehe! We don’t really do anything in particular, we just walk and look around. Oh, and our new routine is to get some McDo french fries and one of DQ’s 12oz. Blizzard to share with our new mall companion. Here he is in McDonald’s while waiting for Dada to buy the french fries.

home schooling

We’ve had several students who’ve had home schooling before entering formal school. Ramil and I plan to do this to Mateo in the years before he goes to school which means I am definitely saying goodbye to full-time teaching at least until Mateo can go to school with us already. This made me think of studying myself while doing only part-time work. There are a lot of education opportunities online and I can actually ‘go’ to school without leaving home. There are several online universities like Capella University that offers online degree programs like graduate degree programs and bachelor degree programs in several fields like business and education. It would be a good idea to be able to learn also while staying home and teaching Mateo several tricks.
