laptop upgrade

I am looking into buying an additional set of memory cards for my laptop. Although it’s still very reliable, I can’t help but want faster processing time especially with all the multi-tasking I’ve been doing. Ramil, on the otherhand, is actually selling his laptop. He’s always been particular with video cards because of the games he’d like to play on his laptop and after seeing snew, excellent laptops in the market, he’s also thinking of upgrading by selling his and buying a new one. I jokingly told him not to sell his laptop and give it to Mateo instead :P

complete again… soon

My dad will be abe to go home this early February. Finally, after so much anticipation late last year. He was actually supposed to be with us for Christmas and New Year but his company wasn’t able to find a replacement for him. He’s very excited to see Mateo while my sister is very excited to get her new laptop. We’re also hoping he was able to get the DSLR I mentioned. His current ship’s ports include Japan and US so there are a lot of good buys. He jokingly told me he’ll buy Hydroxycut upon learning that I am on a quest to lose weight. He told me to plan a trip for us this summer and I’m excited to bring Mateo again to the beach. We’re all excited for him to come home and hopefully, if things go according to his plan, he won’t have to work as a seaman anymore.

new year diet changes

This year is a very big year for us. I just feel that there will be a lot of changes for our family this year. Ramil and I started the year with some ‘dietary changes’. Haha! I’ve coerced him into going into some kind of diet. I plan to go back to my weight before I got pregnant with Mateo because we hope circumstances would fall into place and we’d be able to try for another baby late this year. I told Ramil that it’s my requirement before I get pregnant again. I need to prove to myself that I can get my old weight back without using a fat burner. So my game plan is to stay away from rice, bread, pasta, and sugar. Rice, bread, and pasta, I can handle fine. Although I love bread and pasta, I easily steer clear of them most of the time. However, I’ve always been a person whose meal will not be complete without dessert! In fact, I could eat dessert all through out a meal. I used to cut down on all other food except dessert. I used to willingly not eat other food just so I could eat more dessert.

I’m successful in following the diet most of the time. Hehe! Weekends and special occasions are exemptions so I was still able to enjoy Mateo’s birthday cake last week. I find myself still trying to follow the diet plan even during weekends and special occasions though, except for the dessert part. I’m still around 5 lbs. away from my pre-pregnancy weight of 115 lbs but I’m extending it a bit more and trying to go down to 112 lbs. Once I reach that weight, that’s one item off my list of ‘things to accomplish so we can have another baby’.

musings of a mama

It’s Mateo’s birthday today. I can’t believe my baby is now two years old! It still feels like just a few months ago when Ramil and I were newbie parents on our own, playing mama and dada in our rented Taytay house. I’m so happy with how he’s growing. So bibo, so daldal. He’s such an independent thinker already that it’s a joy talking to him.

Just the other day, we were watching Mamma Mia and I got teary-eyed during the scene where Meryl Streep was helping her daughter prepare for the wedding. The scene was so sentimental, the music melancholic. It made me realize how fast kids grow and that I dare not take my eyes off Mateo for fear that I’m going to miss something important. I’d sometimes get this ‘awwww’ feeling everytime I watch him sleeping. As early as now, I am unashamedly admitting that I might become one of those mothers trying to discreetly wipe flowing tears the day their son gets married. But that’s in the far future. I still have to deal with the first barkada, the first date, the first girlfriend, and all the other firsts that would slowly but surely change him from being my son to being his own man.

I don’t even have a gift for him except for a trip to Manila Ocean Park on Saturday. Despite my desire to give him a lot of things as gifts, nothing seems worth giving that would be a good enough approximation of how much I love him. Well, that and the fact that Ramil and I vow to be on an even tighter budget this year. Nevertheless, gift or no gift, I hope he feels how much he is loved. With every tender caress, with every sticky kiss, with every diaper changed, with every second that I nurse him, with every big hug, with every reprimand, with every stern look or controlled angry words. With everything that’s lovingly done for him.

So to my son, thank you. Life is so much more wonderful because of you.

post-holiday gift ideas

Once October starts rolling in, our small family spends a lot in the next six months. October 25 is my birthday, December 17 is our wedding anniversary, December 25 is Christmas, January 15 is Mateo’s birthday, March 7 is our bf-gf anniversary, and April 24 is Ramil’s birthday. It’s the most expensive six months for us. Good thing I’m not so hung up on gifts anymore. A book, DVDs, a small accessory, even fashion jewelry sets would be okay for me. It’s our bf-gf anniversary in two months and I told Ramil that he could give me some jewelry, haha! Seriuosly though, the ones at HolstedJewelers.com look so real and classy that I wouldn’t mind getting them as gifts. I might even buy a few myself.

Christmas eve 08

It was our first time to spend Christmas eve in our own house. Since my dad was not able to go home for the holidays, Ramil and I just asked my family and his family to visit us. On the 24th, my family came and spent the night in our house while Ramil’s parents visited us on the 25th.

The three of us attended mass at 8:30 p.m. and leaving for the church, we took some pictures of ourselves in front of the tree. Unfortunately, there was no one else with us at the time and Ramil and I were too lazy to set the timer on the camera so we were left without a complete family picture :(

Mateo got a lot for Christmas, most of them toys. After fixing all his new toys together with his old ones, I told Ramil that we are not buying any toys anymore. We ended up buying extra plastic containers to put his new toys in. We, however, didn’t even have gifts for each other. Haha! We opted to buy DVDs and do some shameless DVD marathon during the Christmas break. Of course, it would have been nice if we could afford something like a Westgate vacation but we don’t really mind.

my litle Spiderman

Mateo loves imitating everything he sees so you could just imagine how it is whenever he watches TV. I am now personally experiencing the bad effects of watching TV whenever we’d accidentally let him watch something that’s not appropriate for him.

The other day, Spiderman 3 was on HBO and we let him watch some parts of it, particularly those parts where Spiderman is being the usual superhero. He loves watching superheroes on TV and he loves doing superhero poses like this:

It’s one of the reasons why my mom gave him a Spiderman costume as one of her Christmas gifts for Mateo. Mateo loved the costume and would sometimes request that the face mask be put on him. He even loves looking at himself in the mirror whenever he has the costume on.

Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the classic Spiderman pose.

did I say we like to cram?

My husband and I are bad teachers. Well, considering that I was called a ‘delinkwente’ back in high school then I might have improved a lot. Still, despite the many times that we promised not to cram, we always end up cramming anyway. It’s fortunate that he can teach any science topic from linear motion to taxonomy without reviewing anything. Now we have just a day left until classes resume and here we are, still cramming. I guess some things are hard to change.

DVD marathon

Ramil and I bought a lot of DVDs a few weeks ago, mostly several seasons of some TV series. Hence, our days would usually begin with Mateo waking up around 7 am. He’d then prance around the bed trying to kiss us into waking up. If he’s not successful, he’d go down the bed and try to play with whatever thing he can put his hands on. When he gets tired of entertaining himself, he’d climb our bed again and this time he’d be more persistent in his attempts to wake us up. Ramil and I would take turns hugging and kissing him then we’d ask him to fix his bed before we go out of the bedroom. After breakfast, we’d turn on the TV and watch episode after episode, sometimes while playing with Mateo on the carpet. We’d take a break for lunch and to put Mateo to sleep and then its back to our DVD marathon. Unless we feel like going somewhere or walking with Mateo outside, the marathon continues until it’s time for dinner. After dinner, we put Mateo to sleep and then go back to watching episodes until around 1 or 2 am.

Yes, we’re being couch potatoes. I don’t even want to imagine how it’s going to be like if we have a pop up tv in our bedroom. We justify our laziness to the fact that we never get to do recreational things like this once school starts again. We haven’t even finished half of our DVD loot, if only our break is two weeks longer :D

home sweet home

We spent most of our Christmas break at home. Ramil and I are self-proclaimed homebodies and we love lounging around the house. We’d be content with occasional outings or short trips to the supermarket or the mall.

Yesterday, we took down ourĀ  Christmas tree and did some cleaning around the house. Ramil and I got to talking about the possibility of buying the house we’re renting now from the owner. The owner has already migrated to Canada and we’re hoping she’ll be agreeable to a rent-to-own scheme. Although we’d still prefer to build our own wherein we get to dictate the smallest details of the house like door knobs and kitchen sinks, right now this is the closest thing we’d get to having our own house. We can always do renovations in the far, far future anyway.
