shopping for the kitchen

The past few days, I have been worrying once again about how we’re going to settle in when we get to Brunei. It seems that looking for a place we can rent is going to be the easiest thing. Once Ramil found a suitable house for us, it is going to be up to us to put things inside because renting a fully furnished house is going to be very expensive for us. Not to mention that fully furnished houses for rent in Brunei are way too big for our small family of four.

The area of the house that I am most worried about is the kitchen because we simply cannot do without those. Hopefully, the kitchen would come with a stainless steel kitchen sink and a kitchen pantry cabinet. But all the other small stuff like pots, pans, stove, table, kitchen chair pads, utensils, other cooking stuff, and other dining stuff, we would have to buy.

So I guess the kitchen is my priority because we would have to eat three times a day. In other parts of the house we can make do. All we need is a mattress for the bedroom and a dining table and we’re good. How I wish I could find a more affordable way to ship stuff so that I could just bring our stuff there. But then again, shopping for everything will be exciting as well. I just need to save more so that we’ll have more budget for it.

securing your home

Ever since Ramil and I had Mateo, we both have been more concerned about keeping everything safe and secure, our house included. That concern does not decrease over time but increases with each kid added to the family. So you can safely say that the topic has been lingering more on our minds ever since Anika was born.

I also find myself worrying about safety and security when we go to Brunei. Good thing that Brunei has almost 0% crime rate. Still, it would give us tremendous peace of mind if we can have a Home Security Team. Researching about security systems at http://www.broadviewsecurity.com/ is making me want to get one for our house here in Novaliches. The only security system we have right now here is our two golden retrievers who do not do much when it comes to being fierce. I would sometimes imagine them barking gruffly and then wagging their tails if a burglar should try to enter the house.

Since I could not afford one for us right now, I have read consumer reports about to boost your home security. Tips like making your doors kickproof, choosing the right locks for your doors, keeping your house well-lighted, using the trees around your house, and many more are discussed and I found them very, very helpful. I plan to apply them to my parents’ house here in Novaliches and hopefully, I can also use them when we live on our own once again in Brunei. Living on our own in a foreign country can be scary regardless of the country’s crime rate so I will do everything to help keep our family safe and secure.

earning from blogging – is it bad?

If you notice, there is a link up there that says ‘Disclosure’. Go ahead, click the link. It will take you to a page that has a simple, direct sentence: ‘This blog accepts paid posts’. So does it make me a bad blogger? I don’t think so. A blog anyway is simply an online journal. The owner of the blog can more or less post whatever he or she wants. For me, it does not make me a bad blogger; it makes me a resourceful stay at home mother.

Why do I suddenly delve into this topic? Ramil’s blog has been getting comments that has been mocking his blog and even mine for being ‘sell outs’ because of our paid posts. I keep telling Ramil not to mind the comments and to just delete them. If the commenter does not even have the balls to give his or her real name with his opinion then he or she is not worth any reply. All the comments except for one came from a single IP address but different names were used.

I know that a lot of people might share this person’s opinion but I don’t really care. This is my blog and I am not begging for everyone to read it. Those who do not like it may freely choose not to read it. I paid for my domain and I pay for my own hosting so I think I am free to put whatever I want on it even if it means earning from it. It lets me stay home and earn even more than what I used to earn while teaching. It puts food on the table and pays the bills. I happen to think that I am not doing anything wrong, bad, nor illegal. Some may think it’s ‘selling out’ but when you have a family to think of you stop thinking of what other people might think.

craving for some me time

This is something I have been craving for quite some time now. Since I do not go out of the house everyday, I would sometimes want to take a break and go out. One of the things that makes being a stay at home mother difficult is the fact that unlike yayas, I do not really get an official day-off where I can do whatever we want without anyone bothering me. If I do get the chance, maybe I’ll go to a spa and have some much needed pampering so that I will not think of visiting gettingridofblackheads.net every time I look at my face closely in the mirror. I’ve also been thinking of having a haircut. It would be even nicer if I could buy some things for myself. But then again, all the things I mentioned would require money so I guess it be a long time before I get to do these things.

I love banapple

Ever since we moved here to Novaliches and we have been making weekly visits to Cardinal, I have grown to love Banapple. Those who pass by Katipunan Avenue would know this red and yellow restaurant. Since we use this route whenever we got to Cardinal, we would often find ourselves eating here.

Just last Thursday, we dropped by the Human Nature office to get some orders and to give them to someone who is also telling me to become an affiliate of a particular website. Afterwards, even if we weren’t supposed to go to Cardinal, we thought of eating lunch in Banapple. Ramil and Mateo shared the ribs while I also shared my herbed chicken with Ramil. Mateo also had the peanut butter chocolate banana smoothie and of course, we had dessert.

Earlier today, I remembered our lunch last Thursday and it made me want to go back. I’m scheduled for another check-up on Tuesday and I already know where we’ll have lunch :)

should you invest in gold?

Nowadays, it is pretty common for a lot of people to go into many investments. Financial awareness and education has promoted the perks of investing your money instead of just saving it or spending it. Gold is one of the choices when it comes to investing and any investor could buy it from the United States Gold Bureau. Below are some reasons why you might want to invest in gold coins.

  • Gold almost always increases in price.
  • Gold production is decreasing which only means there will be a higher demand for gold in the future.
  • Gold is a more secure ‘currency’.
  • Gold will last forever.
  • Gold can be used for jewelry.
  • Gold is recognized around the world for its value.

back to downloading torrents

The new season of a lot of TV series is about to premiere this week and I can’t wait to start watching Glee and Grey’s Anatomy again. Just last week, I started downloading torrents of Gossip Girl and I have been having marathons so I can catch up to season 4 which premiered last Monday. Yes, I’m a late bloomer when it comes to Gossip Girl but I’m having fun watching it.

A new TV series, Hellcats, has also caught my attention although it hasn’t reached my must-watch list yet. If Glee is all about the glee club, Hellcats is all about cheerleading. If you are one of those who think that cheerleaders are more concerned about looking good and pondering on which diet pills are the best then you should catch an episode of Hellcats. It is only on its second episode and I look forward to downloading the third episode when it airs at the end of the week.

reality check for our 3-year-old

Last Monday, we brought my parents to the airport for their flight to Bohol and afterwards, we brought my sister to Antipolo. We prepared Mateo by telling him that we will visit Hedcen and he can see his old classmates if he wants to. We always want him to be ready for our short trips like this because he could get difficult if he is not prepared. His tantrums could get bad at times that I would sometimes think I need acne cream for the stress it causes me. He grew excited and was eagerly anticipating going back to his old school.

When we got there, Mateo excitedly got out of the car and went up his old school. He walked towards his old classroom but stopped short when he saw that he does not recognize any of the students inside. After that, he refused to go inside any classroom even when we showed him the classroom where his classmates are now in. I knew exactly how he felt. It was that feeling when you realize that you do not belong to a particular place or group anymore.

After that, he didn’t even want to see his old classmates. All he wanted was to go to the library and play there. I was a bit sad for my little boy because as I’ve said, I know how it feels. Ramil told me that maybe we should have prepared him more for it by telling him that his old classroom has new students already. But I think what happened is something that he will have to face in his life anyway. It was a real-life lesson that he will really have to learn. The best we can do is to hug him and reassure him that even if things are not the same way as before, life goes on and we’ll always be there for him.

a Bohol vacation

My parents just had a six-day vacation in Bohol to visit my grandma’s relatives. They brought with them my grandma, my mom’s sister, and my mom’s brother. They were able to visit all the usual tourist spots and got darker skins from swimming in the sea. Since my mom has a hip problem, she had difficulty climbing up to the viewing deck of Chocolate Hills. It might have helped if she took msm supplement for some joint relief but she had to settle for the usual pain relievers. They also had fun lounging by the beaches of Panglao Island.

We would have loved to go with them but unfortunately, Anika is too small for a vacation like that. I told Ramil that we must visit Bohol soon too. Hopefully, we can go next year or when we come back from Brunei.

alternative careers

College for me has never been a requirement. Even though I think that it is very important in gaining enough knowledge and training for whatever career you many want, it is definitely not everything there is. I know a lot of people who never went to college or who did not finish college but who are very successful in their own right and very happy with their lives.

One of the alternatives to college is the cosmetology school in Orange Park, the Regency Beauty Institute. It has been around for 5o years and has expanded to 80 campuses. Anyone who is interested in learning salon services would definitely benefit from enrolling in something like this.
