Aside from being so busy with my preparations for this schoolyear, one of the reasons why I haven’t been able to blog much lately is my sister. You see, she has a really old Toshiba laptop that doesn’t even have a wireless receiver and a LAN port. We have a 1000 Mbps Globe Broadband subscription and we have a wireless router at home. Now this makes her want to go online every night. The problem is, she’d often borrow my laptop whenever she wants to use the internet. Which leaves me with nothing to work with. I’ve told her time and again to go buy a newer laptop otherwise, I’m going to start charging her for every hour that she uses my laptop, LOL. Of course I was just joking with her. She already asked our dad to buy her one since he’s in the US right now. She’s praying (and I am too) that she gets her Compaq soon.

I’m your host
Pardon the delay, we’ve had problems with our internet broadband for several days and I wasn’t able to go online. Anyway, I’ve got the winner for the free hosting contest that I started. And its… Mai! Congrats Mai! Send me an email so we can talk about it
. So that’s the result of my first online contest. I wish to be able to offer better prizes next time like maybe cartier watches?
I also like joining online contests since they’re usually very easy to join not to mention that the prizes are usually things that I like or maybe some easy paypal money. I’ll think of coming up with another contest soon. Hopefully, more people join the next time around.
‘contest’ extended
I’m extending the free hosting contest I started last week. I was supposed to end it today but I totally forgot about it, LOL. And since only a few people have joined so far, I’m extending it for three more days. I’ll be drawing the winner on Wednesday. Stay tuned
free hosting!
Do you want your own domain? Are you blogging on a free blog-hosting platforms like Blogger, WordPress.com, Tabulas, LiveJournal, Multiply, Friendster, etc? Would you like to have a blog that would let you earn more?
Then blogging on your own domain, with a paid hosting account just might be right for you. Getting your own domain is pretty easy but a hosting account can be pretty expensive, with maybe $4 per month = $48 per year. Last year, I bought a 2-year hosting account that could host as many domains as I want. I use only a small portion of the disk space and the bandwidth considering that I only have 3 blogs in it.
So here’s the deal… I’m offering hosting for 1-year, FREE! What do you need to do to get it? Simple:
- Write a blog post about this and link to my site. Also, include something in your post about how blogging has affected your life as a mother (if you’re a mommy) or simply, how blogging has affected your life (if you’re not a mommy).
- Leave a comment on this post with a link to your post to let me know.
I’ll be doing a raffle of the names of those who joined next Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 10:00 am so all comments and posts should be in by then. The winner should have his or her own domain. Winner could easily buy his or her preferred domain. I will be hosting that domain for free for a year. I will only use wordpress though because I don’t know other free blog platforms, hehe!
I think this would be ideal for those who are only just starting to explore the idea of blogging on their own domain and yet do not want to spend too much for it. Or for those who simply have too much ideas for a blog and would like to start another one. Or for those who would like to transfer their existing blogs to their own domain. So what are you waiting for? Write that post now!
To Do List tag
Litzie tagged me with a to-do-list. I used to have a post-it on my desktop for my to-do-list. I’m one of those who likes to be organized by listing down things I need to do. It brings me great pleasure to be able to cross out items on my list. So before lounging around this weekend, here’s my to-do-list for next week:
- Finish the academic budget for trigonometry, which I’m going to be teaching this coming schoolyear.
- Finish a total of 6 SMOs (subject matter outlines): 1 for Grade 6 Math, 2 for Year 2 Algebra, and 3 for Trigo (and I’m supposed to be a part-time teacher
). - Finish at least 2 pages of Mateo’s first year book. I’ve only finished layouting the first 10 pages, wah!
- Upload new themes on this blog.
- Fix my photoblog.
- Clean the bathrooms.
- Change the bedsheets.
- Get a list of drug rehab center that neighbor’s son could get into.
There are several more I can think of but I don’t want to risk getting overwhelmed and not doing anything at all. Haha!
Show me your list… Kathy, Jeng, Jenn. If you’d like to do this too, feel free to snag it.
BUSY PEOPLE: 1.) my chopsuey 2.) mind bubbles 3.) vanity kit 4.) somethingpurple 5.) a detour 5.) Confessions of a Supermodel Wannabe 6.) Mommy Talks. 7.) Aggie Shoots. Aggie Scraps 8.) Winding Creek Circle 9.) Pink and Brown Diaries. 10.) My BIG Picture. 11.) crazy mama
upgraded to wordpress 2.5.1
Ever since I started blogging on my own domain last year, I didn’t upgrade my wordpress install. Last week though, something crazy happened… my blog got hacked.
My initial reaction was, why? Is my blog worth hacking? I found out that the wordpress version I was running (2.2, yep that old!) had many security issues and that it’s not unheard of for blogs still running this version to get hacked. The first thing I did was to back up my databases and then decided to just do a fresh install of the new version of wordpress. Here’s where I found myself with a big hurdle. Updating my databases was easy enough. Wiping my hosting account clean of all files was also hassle-free. I didn’t realize though that it’s not as easy as installing a new wordpress version and uploading my old databases. I had to install the original old version and then upgrade the whole thing since my databases need to be upgraded too.
After hours of installing, uploading, and upgrading, which I had to do several times by the way, my blog and Ramil’s blog are finally back online. I have yet to fix my photoblog though and I still want to install new templates on this one. After the whole ordeal though, I’ve realized that I have a huge amount of disk space and bandwidth just sitting there and not being utilized. So I’ve thought of cooking up something and offering FREE hosting for a year. To those who want to have additional blogs hosted on their own domain, I’ll be posting the details on Saturday.
one more year
My mom’s friend would finally graduate from college next year. She’s been working on her media coursework for several months now and she’s dying to finally finish it. Another batchmate of hers who will also be graduating decided to make a RE coursework, a piece of writing disclosing the problems of religion, ethics, and philosophy. It made me recall a friend taking up Spanish when we were in college. She had to make a Spanish coursework too. Making a paper can be a real challenge for some students. A service like Course-Works can be such a big help for requirements like these. They offer professional writing, editing, and proofreading service. How I wish I knew about them when I was a student too
a girl’s investment
My mom is the type of woman who loved jewelries. She has an assortment of them: gold, silver, different gemstones, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings, and anklets. I remember that when I was younger, I would excitedly look on whenever she’d open her jewelry box and get ready to go out. She’s given me a few pieces as I grew older and I am actually excited to start my own jewelry collection if only I have the money. Sometimes, she’s check out the current gold price because she’d sometimes sell a few gold items of hers that she doesn’t use anymore. She thinks that her jewelries are actually her investments and she likes earning from them from time to time especially if she has several ‘extras’.
up against a wall
This is how I would want hackers and viruses to be. So I guess I need a good computer security software like ESET smart security. With the amount of time we spend hooked up to the internet, having strong internet security is a must. Not to mention the security that we need whenever we connect our laptop to a network. There have been times when after using our laptop to connect to the school’s network, we have had to clean up some files because of viruses. Also, while connected to the school network, we wouldn’t want just about anyone to have access to our files. Nowadays, it’s better to be safe than sorry and prevention is always better than cure.
