woe to the red car

For months now, we’ve barely used our beloved red car. At first, the car’s electrical system seems to be malfunctioning because we’d often find the battery drained of electricity even though it’s just a year old. Because of that, the car refused to start several times. So we didn’t use our red car for a long time. Good thing we have my dad’s Revo with us. After a few weeks, I took pity on her. Ramil and I took her batteries and brought it to a battery shop to have it charged. After that, the red car started without any hassle. What we resorted to doing is to remove the battery poles after every use of the car. Ramil and I would get weird looks everytime we’d open the hood, haha!

The strategy worked well unfortunately, the brakes started giving us problems last week. With the terrain here in the hills of Antipolo, a close-to-giving-out pair of brakes is not an option. We again decided to let her rest for some time because we don’t have the budget to get the car parts necessary to replace her brakes. Until now, she sits on the garage unused. I’m really anxious to do something about her. I’ve actually considered selling her. With the rising price of gasoline and her high cost of maintenance, it seems to be the reasonable thing to do. We’ll see, we get sentimental whenever we think of parting with her. She’s been with us through a lot of things and we have a lot of memories together. But she seems to be telling us that she wants a retirement already. Hopefully, we get to decide soon.

our car dilemma

We love our red car. Ramil and I have dreams of joining ‘Pimp My Ride’ so our red car can have a new life. We’d love to have a new one and if we have enough money, we’d try to restore her still. There are a lot of options for those who would like to do car restorations. An uncle was talking about midwest auto recycling. They specialize in used engines and transmissions and they also offer warranty. It would be great if we could get a better and more powerful engine for our beloved red car. It would surely extend her life for another five years or so. If we get that chance then we might not even need to buy a new one. Our red car has shared a lot of memories with us. We’d love to have more.

an overheating problem

One of our car’s usual problem is overheating. The cause of the problem is usually the radiator or the fan attached to it. I remember a relative who had the same problems before. His car kept on overheating despite numerous attempts to have the radiator fixed. It was finally solved when he decided to just buy a new Honda Radiator. Since then, his car hasn’t overheated yet. Ramil and I are thinking of doing the same thing. Maybe it would save us more in the end if we just replace our car’s old radiator with a new one. We couldn’t afford to have a constantly overheating car now that Mateo often rides it too. Though we are actually wishing for a new car instead. Hehe!

TOWED…again!

For the 3rd time, our beloved car is towed. For the nth time, she stalled. Thankfully, without costs this time (Ramil’s uncle, using their jeepney, ‘towed’ us). Ramil and I were joking that we should make a diary entitled ‘The Adventures of the Red Car’.

It was the radiator fan this time. We went to megamall yesterday and when we were in Meralco Ave on our way home, the temp suddenly hit the red area. Fortunately, Ramil was able to park it in front of a small resto/bar named Muchos. After letting the radiator guzzle down volumes of water, we started the car again and discovered the culprit… the radiator fan is broken. We called people and consulted. Turned out it would be dangerous to try using it without the fan. And so we were towed.

This and a lot of other inconveniences our Lancer GLX has given us have us wishing and hoping for enough money to buy a car (a newer one, at least). But with the baby on the way, plus we are actually targetting to buy a lot (for a house), the idea seems far-fetched.Or we can always try home birth, lampin, am, etc. On second thoughts, I’ll take the red car.
