I’m your host

Pardon the delay, we’ve had problems with our internet broadband for several days and I wasn’t able to go online. Anyway, I’ve got the winner for the free hosting contest that I started. And its… Mai! Congrats Mai! Send me an email so we can talk about it ;) . So that’s the result of my first online contest. I wish to be able to offer better prizes next time like maybe cartier watches? :D I also like joining online contests since they’re usually very easy to join not to mention that the prizes are usually things that I like or maybe some easy paypal money. I’ll think of coming up with another contest soon. Hopefully, more people join the next time around.

new look, new host

To those who regularly visits my blog, you’d notice that it now has a new look. No more ads up there! I have successfully transferred webhosts. Yey! Surprisingly, my domain’s hosting was transferred relatively easily and painlessly. Unfortunately, this couldn’t be said of Ramil’s domain.

When I purchased the hosting plan and started to move our blogs to another webhost, Ramil suggested that I try transferring his blog first as a guinea pig since my blog has more posts, hence more to lose. So I went about transferring the domain registration, which was where I made a mistake. Thinking that I’ll move the databases after transferring the domain registration, we literally lost Ramil’s whole blog. Since our old blogs were using free ad-supported hosting by the old registrar, the hosting account disappeared after I transferred the registration. My mind went uh-oh and I had to slowly let Ramil in on the boo-boo that I made. I quickly made a quick glance at our excel file of paid posts and computed the lost posts to be around $50. It turned out to be a good thing that he doesn’t do paid posts much. I contacted the old host and they said that they restore files for a fee of $150! No, thank you.

My last backup was March of this year and we just uploaded that instead. Then while checking my Google Reader, I realized that I’m subscribed to Ramil’s blog feed! Unfortunately, his feed is set to show only the first few sentences. I had to settle for that and went about restoring his blog. So now, his old posts consists of only a few sentences. Haha! I told him to rewrite them if he wants but I went about making the $50-worth of paid posts. Good enough for us.

When it was my blog’s turn to move, I made sure to backup the database before anything else. I was able to move my blog without a hitch. Thanks to my guinea pig.

After uploading my database, I went about uploading more themes. It took me a lot of quick changes before I finally settled on this one. Ramil still likes the old one better though, how about you? :)
